Hi Jim and or Di :-) , me again :-) You recently installed the subforum mod on a WOW board that had been recently purchased. I host both that board and my own on a reseller account. I am extremely happy with my host and all of the sites I host are just for friends and family, so I don't want to move. I was just recently notified by the host that they are upgrading (at year end) to PHP 5 and the mySQL will be using STRICT_TRANS_TABLES . I wrote to WOW private support to ask if the software would be ok with this and Marty indicated that there would be a problem. So my question is would there be the same issue with a WOW Ultra board? THanks for your time.

That is unfortunate, I have heard many explanations on why MySQL5 even includes strict mode, none of them seem logical to me. It can be turned off at the host but it sounds like they are determined to use it. No, neither WowBB or WowUltra will work in strict mode. An application pretty much has to be written from the ground up to accept this routine. About half the apps written in php/mysql will not work and they are going to loose a lot of customers. If you need hosting we just bought a large professional dedicated server to better service our hosting customers. It is optimized for php/MySQL apps and I have hold of the controls.... I'll never turn strict mode on.

Well if I can not convince them to allow the mySQL as is for the 2 sites I have the forums on I guess I will be forced to move the forums...but this would mean moving those 2 domain names..... If I am forced to move, it may as well be with you :-) The host I am with has not been down in 4 years except for very brief maintainence and upgrades where we have known ahead of time. I have had other hosts, but never one as reliable. I would want the same kind of service :-) I had planned to purchase the WowUltra for the VAA site anyway but the change would have to be done during a semester break ( Classes are officially over on the 20th of December)...... The BW site (where you installed the sub forum mod) we were just planning to add the emoticon mod and leave it as is I think..... They do take a break in December from the 19th to Jan 2, so we could make the move then if we are going to have to move. As you know I have done a lot of modifications to both boards and there are several things that I don't want to lose. Both boards are private so could I send you a list of things that we didn't want. For example, guest mod - most users online- popular topics - attachments viewed so many times - stuff like that. Would that be possible? Thanks Jim, Sparrow

I can set you up with a special account where you can host both domains in one account. We own 14 domains, in a few weeks 5 or 6 of them will be hosted in one account with the rest being parked. We can discuss pricing for special accounts in PM if you like. I'm sure I can beat whatever you are getting now. Jim

You didn't address the mods being left intact so I am assuming that wouldn't be a problem. Another question comes to mind. We are currently on Apache using a Plesk panel. What type of panel do you use? We are just both so familiar with the plesk interface... :-) Price is important but not near as important as reliability, uptime and support. I know that support is not an issue with you, you have always been very good in that area.

THIS POST HAS BEEN CHANGED Linux, CentOs (a RedHat derivative) with: Apache 1.3.37 PHP 4.4.7 MySQL 4.1.22 All the necessary programs have been installed to support extended graphics functions, search engine friendly URL's, and spell check. Reverse DNS entries have been added so the e-mail doesn't get viewed as spam by hotmail, AOL, and a few others. The control panel is industry standard C-Panel 10. Demo can be found here: http://demo.cpanel.net:2082/frontend/x/index.html Username: xdemo Password: xdemo Server was built less than 3 weeks ago and I have spent the last 2 weeks getting it prepped for WowUltra. WowBB runs great on it too of course. The post was edited, what I had previously posted I changed early in configuration for backwards compatability with some popular php/mysql apps including older phpBB boards.

Looks easy enough to use.... only thing I see is this doesn't use httpdocs does it? what does it use for root directory? and both of the sites we would have to move use webuser accounts for our students and or mentees.... Would that be a problem? One varies between 60 and 100 webusers and we allow 2mg each. We control the user name and password. Other has about 55 classes and they vary in space allotment (but space wouldn't be the issue. These have .htpasswd and .htaccess files . Also do you have other applications available? We are currently using the gallery by sourceforge, but it is made available thru the host. Can we run our forms? Any that are public are from tectite and include captcha and suppose to be very secure. The others are the formmail from Matts script archive, but those are password protected pages so shouldn't be vulnerable to outside users..... And I see protected directories, so those must be available?
