Hi there,

I have a rather long story here.  I tried the WoW board trial and after two weeks decided to purchase it and had it installed on my host site.  The WoW people were supposed to transfer it for me - they’ve been working on me since last Wednesday.  As of this morning, my data has still not been transferred (our data base is too large for them to ftp or whatever but I assumed that “internet people” would know how to do this) AND for some reason a gallery I had installed at my site is not working this morning - it was fine until late last night.

I have a group of about 25 members, they post a lot.  They’re impatient and worried.

Yesterday I stumbled across the WoW ultra and installed a trial.  It is really much more suited to our needs, it has all the mods we were looking for already installed.

What we want to know is if I purchase the Ultra and you install it at my domain, would you be able to transfer from either the trial site I have of the regular WoW or from a backup I do myself from it.

I would then cancel my purchase of the regular WoW I’m just not getting service from them.

Thanks

Hello Notso,

The Wow system is usually pretty good at getting it done, where are you hosting the site at? Sometimes limitations at the host level can make it difficult to upload large databases- that's why our parent company Data 1 Systems enables SSH on all our hosting accounts. I have transferred 1/2 GIG databases that way no problem.

We can convert the Wow database to an Ultra database but might have a parallel problem with transferring to your current host.

If you could give us some current hosting details or possibly PM us with some details such as site control panel and FTP log ins we could check before you purchase to make sure it can be done.

For as little as $4.99 a month I could ensure that we could transfer any size database in minutes (the standard hosting plan at Data 1 Systems) :)

I just went there myself and looked at ssh -

could this be the problem I wonder?

class="med"For security reasons, shell access is not enabled by default. In order to activate shell access on your account, you will need to fax or mail a copy of your driver's license, passport or other photo id to customer service.

Such security measures only keeps out the honest people :)

Even if you have them enable SSH their packet size settings might prevent upload of a large database. I would use a 3rd party tool and believe I could get it in there.

Anyhow your gallery isn't going to work right at all, session.save_path must be set to a valid directory and be writable by the web server user (you!). You need to ask them if they will enable it or write you a custom ini file.

Looks like the board would run there though. About 99% sure.

Still checking stuff-

Thanks Jim.

How long do you think would be a fair length of time to give the other guys to finish this transfer.  They started working on me last Wednesday.

I'm trying to be fair, but some of my people think I should be getting upset about now.

I definitely want to purchase the Ultra - but would like to keep all the data we have on the trial WoW if possible.

What do you think is my best way of accomplishing this.

The reason I sound so anxious is that our data base is geting bigger all the time.  We have almost 4,000 posts as of today.

Buy a WowUltra license and let us handle the rest. I'll have to shut the WowBB trial down to transfer the database but would give you warning. It would be completed before midnight tonight EST.
