Close to a year of development on the WowUltra software has brought forth a few conclusions (some hard learned) and one of them is the amount of times the software accesses the database has a significant impact on board speed and page regeneration time. It also can impact the server load to the point of slowing down other sites in a shared environment. Here in the Ultra lab we constantly count queries. It is simple to design routines that "do stuff" by pulling a ton of queries, it is much more time consuming to design loops in the PHP code to do complicated math from info already pulled from the database. WowUltra 1.15 is proving to be the leanest, quickest version ever, pulling minimal queries from the database to generate the code. The queries tho I do have a question. Maybe I should already know the answer but ... Is it the less queries something needs to work means the faster the board loads up? I was just wondering if this was the problem with some boards I go to that take forever to load. And sometimes I leave before they're finished because it gets so aggravating. I never have that problem with this board tho.

It should load faster now . Yes each query is one time the board has to connect to the MySQL database and access information. The more queries the longer it takes, plus there are only so many connections allowed at one time. On a shared server there is usually only one MySQL system and if each time a member accesses the index page it pulls 80 queries, and there are 50 people on.... well you do the math. 18 seems much more reasonable and I think there is room for improvement still.

Sounds really good Jim, can i ask what new features 1.15 has? in comparison with 1.13.

The cut down on queries is great. Especially with picky hosts.

Okay, Jim upgraded our two sites last night from version 1.11 and I am....wow! like a kid in a candy store, the improvement is astonishing. I have yet to get to all the improvments, I just want to thank you for all the great work you do on this software. Sending an email is personal, but you deserve public praise. I love the ability to add side menus, I added my outside links to them before your head hit your pillow. The speed in which the forum opens now is unbelievable. I have only had one person miss the slate look, so I guess making a grey theme is next, but thank you for all you have done and continue to do....ours was money well spent on WowUltra...twice! We are so glad to see so many of our customers utilizing the new features! Jim and I have been involved in bulletin boards for years. In fact, our first board together was a phpBB (shhhh....). So we have some experience as to what people will like/dont like about software. I read and watch to see what people want to see happen for their board and Jim follows thru with the means for our (potential) customers to achieve it. So, when we say that we listen to our customers, we really do listen to them
