A question. Just had a person send me a nasty e-mail concerning the capicom (hope that's the right term. The randomly generated numbers and letters they must type in to register). Anyway, she says they have lines below or above the digits. I didn't know what she was talking about so I logged out and hit "register" so I could see it. Indeed some digits have a line above or below them. I assume they don't have to type the line ? What is the purpose of them. Excuse the ignorance...

It's to fool the robots, not the humans. This is the second time I have heard this actually. Its CAPTCHA, an acronym for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart"
