Hi folks,
Is it possible to restrict people from registering with really long usernames?

ANYTHING can be done :)

I didn't know there wasn't a limit! What is a reasonable limit do you believe?

I would give more than 10. I would say 25 would be long enough.

I think 15 max would be fine for me, if possible.

15 or 20

I see some really good user names and a ten character limit would not do them justice.

after reviewing my board and looking at some of the screen names your right 15/20 probably would be better...

i never really realize how many characters some of my memebers have used..

of course as our members get to know one another we tend to shorten their screen names in our posts...

A lower limit probably wouldn't affect existing members with longer names and will make newbies more creative within the limit we set.

Keep in mind wingnutter is 10 characters. It's not hard to get 10 characters.

Yes that's right Mat. I'd have stuck with wingnut for here (that's what I use on my own forum) except that I was wingnutter on the WOW board and wanted to keep that for here.

Regards,
Steve.

Yes I keep meaning to add my name to posts Jim, but then I just forget most times. I'll probably have forgotten again by tomorrow.

Regards,
Steve.

I would go along with 15 max as well. As Sissie said, after a bit we tend to shorten the long names as well once we get to know people.

I'll consider it but I don't want it to become a Vbull admin panel. Too many adjustments makes it not user friendly.
