I see that non registered people when viewing the forum front page although the links are disabled they can still see the side panel pictures and copy them to their computer. Which rather defeats the object of the exercise so is it possible to make the side panels non viewble by the unregistered?

So you want non registered to see absolutely nothing? That is a first for that request.

I could do a simple redirect to log in if not logged in, seeing nothing is never a good idea.

No Jim, non registered would still see the forum heading and logo plus the message, shown below, directed at people maybe wanting to register.

"If you are looking for real help with the hobby or would like to share your experience with others then please register and you will be warmly welcomed. If, however, you have no wish to participate and want to be a passive observer then there are plenty of excellent forums out there for you."

If I don't use the side panels then what you see now at this link :http://barchester.wowultra.com/ is exactly what I want.

Perhaps it might be possible to disable the 'right click' facility which would prevent downloading of the pictures.

Ignore the last post as I see to do that I seem to need a java script, which I'm not keen on. It's not everyone who has java turned on anyway.

but i do agree that the right disable script is a bad idea.

it won't stop a determined person from taking the images anyway and it comes off(to me) as arrogant and self important.

that's just my opinion.

You can save the entire page off and it saves the images. Or a screen shot.

Robert the menus can disappear but it would be a mod since I don't plan on incorporating it in to the software.

OK Jim, it's not a huge problem as I will make sure that only pictures on there are ones that the members don't mind anyone copying. The internal links were the important thing and you have fixed that for me.

How do they know what it is they are being invited to join and participate in, if you don't let them see any of it?

Martin.

Disabling right-click is pointless in Firefox. Click the Tools > Page Info > Media tab to see a list of all the images on the page. Select the one you want from the list. Click the Save As.. button.

Martin.

It's all there in the statement Martin. 'Real help with the hobby if it's needed, and a welcome for their experience if they don't need help'. What we will not tolerate is lurkers swelling our numbers to no purpose. We are a close knit community and have only 88 members but with 30,000 posts between that says a lot for their participation and committment to the forum. It's a model railway forum and there are dozens of them out there, so if people don't want to be active then let them go to one of those. Apart from anything else it takes two or three minutes of their time to register and if they don't like what they see then they just leave, no problem. If they aren't interested enough, or curious enough, to put even that little effort in then we don't need them.
