All of a sudden I have been getting emails every time I post to my forum.
It's a lot of emails...I have looked every where - it's not a "watched" topic -
I don't have anything checked that I can find that turned this on.

Anyone? Help?
:?

Hi Stoney,

Did you check under "my preferences"?

make sure the box next to "Always notify by e-mail when replies posted to topics you participated in" is unchecked

also, make sure nothing is checked under "watched forums"

If youd like for Jim to take a look, he will need temporary access to your board

Di

I had the same problem Di but when I covered the two items you mention they stopped straight away so I know that works.

In Admin, look at Forums > "Notify moderators on new posts" tickbox for each forum.

Martin.

One other possibility:

If an admin registers a member, and uses his own e-mail addy, then he would have to remember to change the e-mail address, or the preferences for that user. Otherwise that user account will send the e-mails.

I'd assume that most admins would never run into this problem, but on my boards I deal with a lot of members who are completely new to the Internet, and have to manually register a few.

You raise a good point Buster. I'm amazed at the number of people who register and don't know the basics of posting because they never used a forum before. Because I send a message telling new members that they must make a post or be deleted, lots of them send me a panic email asking how to post. I know it sounds incredible but it's true.
To save me the bother of having to send the same reply to them all, yesterday I put up a basic help page (in addition to the more advanced one I already have) and I put the link into the initial message that new members recieve. Here is the page;

http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forumnewbieshelp.htm

Just basic stuff, but it should get the message across.

Yes I know Mag. Most of them just don't bother looking for the HELP button which is clearly visible at the top of the forum. At least all I need do now is send them the link when they cry for help.

Wingman--thats some great stuff. Can I borrow that?? Maybe change it to Kawasaki Green???   (just kidding)

Thats a great idea. I run fishing related boards, and many of our members are logging online for the first time just to find out what the boards are about. I actually consider that to be something of a compliment, and go out of my way to help. You have a great idea there.

Anywho--sorry for hijacking the thread. I do have a problem with unwanted e-mails because I register people who----can't seem to do it themselves. Most never post, but they read, and spread the word to others.
