When having read all the new posts the New Post icon clears, you can return to the forum at a later time and the icon for new posts is back on posts you have already read. Clicking on the Mark all forums read button only seems to work for a short while and then the new post icon returns on old topics. This started happening a couple of days ago. Strangely enough it's the same five topics all the time.

Hi Bob,

Which ones?

Bear in mind that on the front page the "new" icon means there are new posts in any topic in that forum -- not necessarily in the same topic as before.

Generally speaking using the browser's "Back" button or closing your browser and restarting it doesn't reload the page from the server. The browser uses its cached copy, which means the icons don't change. To do that you should either go to the front page via clicking a link (e.g. the board logo), or use the "Back" button and then do a refresh (F5).

regards,

Martin.

have you been moving threads around from one forum to another or deleting threads?

I have also moved dozens into new Sub Forums.

The situation is worse now as there are now seven forums that do this.

I am pretty sure that it is because you are moving things around. The same thing happened to me when I reorganized my forums.

start making new posts in the areas that you have moved forums around and into. It took a while to work itself out but I believe it is an old wowbb issue. Jim can confirm this or not but once you start making new posts in the different sections the old settings should go away.

Hi Bob,

This is a long-standing known issue.

What seems to happen is that after you move a topic, if someone posts a reply to that topic it shows as "new" in the forum to which the topic has been moved AND in the forum from which it was moved. Reading it clears the icon from the former but not the latter.

This explains the apparent delay before the icon reappears -- it's not until someone makes a new post in the relevant topic.

The solution is to do "Mark Forum Read" after all posting has finished in that topic.

It's not a good idea to move topics around while they are still active. If you do that, those members who follow the forum via email (Watched Forums, Watched Topics, reply notifications) will have invalid links in their old emails.

No doubt Jim has been working on a fix for this in the new version.

regards,

Martin.

That all makes sense, it happened to me whenI shuffled things around but settled back down as people posted in the threads.

I think you are quite right as things seem to be settling down again this morning.

Spoke too soon I'm afraid and the situation is worse if anything. All the forums that were affected have been posted in and the New icon cleared itself but now they are back again against even more forums. I have also made sure that every forum has had it's Mark Forum Read button pressed plus the one for the whole site.

As far as I know Jim that's it for now. Things do appear to have improved today as there are only two or three forums showing the new posts after I have read them all, and even clicked on the Mark All As Read button.

It usually lasts a week, it has to do with the recent post threshold in comparison with the day you move them.

I really don't have a fix for this yet, I would like to change the entire time scenario on Ultra but it works very well most of the time.

The whole forum is in disarray now as I can't access anything except my PM's page. yourmodelrailway.net just gets me this error :

Invalid SQL query: SELECT c.category_id AS cat_id, c.category_name, f.*, p.topic_id, p.post_date_time, p.post_user_name, t.topic_name, u.*, ug.* FROM wowbb_categories c LEFT JOIN wowbb_forums f USING (category_id) LEFT JOIN wowbb_posts p ON f.forum_last_post_id=p.post_id LEFT JOIN wowbb_topics t USING (topic_id) LEFT JOIN wowbb_users u ON p.user_id=u.user_id LEFT JOIN wowbb_user_groups ug ON u.user_group_id=ug.user_group_id WHERE c.filter & 1 AND f.filter & 1 ORDER BY c.category_order, c.category_id, f.forum_order-Table './yourmode_ultra/wowbb_topics' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
