Out of interest I have been comparing published figures for this board, and the WowClassic users' board. The differences are very great for two nominally similar boards, and I am wondering why?
Total membership: Ultra=175; Classic=573.

Total number of posts: Ultra=7204; Classic=3029.

Number of active members (at least one post):  Ultra=101; Classic=67.

Number of inactive members (no posts): Ultra= 74; Classic=506.

Active membership: Ultra=58%; Classic=12%.

Average number of posts per member: Ultra=41; Classic=5.

Average number of posts per active member: Ultra=71; Classic=45.
So despite having less than 1/3rd of the total membership of Classic, this Ultra board has more active members and more than twice as many posts. And a majority of the membership, a massive 58%, have been active on this board. Compared to a mere 12% on Classic.

Do these figures mean anything? If so, what?

Martin.

IMHO it means that the members here are more active and have a lot less inactive members than Classic. Some forums delete inactive members, but obviously Classic, like my forum, doesn't.

We are both graphic related forums and I find we have a lot of inactive members who don't particularly want to participate, but like to come in and learn from the site. We don't have a problem with that. Perhaps that is how Classic views it as well.

Hi Mag,

I agree -- I'm entirely happy to have inactive members on my board for the same reason. :)

But so are Jim and Di. As far as I know there is no difference in policy between the Ultra and Classic boards on this. In fact this Ultra board has 74 inactive members.

So this can't be the explanation for the big disparity in member activity between them.

A more significant factor may be the extent to which unregistered visitors can access the forums. Clearly if you don't want to contribute and can gain full access without registering, there is little reason to register.

But again, as far as I can see there is no difference between Ultra and Classic on this.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

I believe Nancy shut down her Wowbb Theme Mall board and merged the membership from that board with Classic's membership back in August.

Maybe it's just that more of the chatters swam this way when the ship went down. ;)

I believe that those stats mean nothing at all. Nancy merged some sites into each other and gained a lot of people who were members her other custom theme and coding board. On that other board many many people were members but did not post and only downloaded themes, etc.

All of that being said - personally my focus is not on classic, or what they are doing there, or how many members they have, or how many posts their members do or do not make. I wish them well BUT my concentration is on Ultra, which is the software here that I support and will continue to support.
