I've been pondering this for over 2 years now. I have answered dozens of posts on "what is mana, why is mana, does it work". WowUltra will get a user ranking system eventually, with admin options on the way it calculates. My thoughts were not to make it on pure post count but a ratio of post count to how many posts per day. That would mean that a member that comes back daily and posts 5 times but only has 600 posts would have a higher ranking than a person with 2000 posts that hasn't been back in a year. Opinions please? It is only roughed out so far.... room to develop on this one.

Sounds good to me, your idea will be something different.

Jim, Haven't got Ultra yet but will within the month of August. If you can work out the algorythm of your idea, it sounds great. Mana just doesn't do it, and post count alone can get annoying (people posting posts which consist of nothing more than 5 smiley's shouldn't be rewarded  ). This type of system is good. But it is solely based on activity and posts? What if someone helped someone or made a good post... will there be a way to add to the rep or whatever you call it as well? Just throwing out thoughts.

I would vote for "rep" or a similar system JUST because so many forum users have experience with it from other forums and constantly inquire about in on my wowbb boards. just my 2 cents

Hi Jim I really like this idea better than mana and pure post count, I like the ranking better base on the active member.

I use vBulletin and it comes with a "ranking" system something similar to what you are talking about. I have it disabled though.

The VBuliten system is a combination of the two. You get points for posting, and people can add or take away based on your posts etc. I like that the best. If you haven't checked out the updated version off Vbuliten they are using a lot of MySpace type qualities. Pretty cool

Sorry not much help here as I disabled mana. We used to have a ranking system pre Wow boards and after so many posts they were upgraded to different "positions" until they reached something like superposter. This was done purely on the number of posts a member made. I am not a fan of people adding and subtracting mana or whatever you want to call it, as I feel it could cause animosity between members. Just a personal opinion of course.
